My neighborhood in HDR (and some tutorials!)
Yesterday after work, my girlfriend and I took the dog for a nice walk around the neighborhood… I grabbed my camera mainly because I was excited to edit photos on my new computer and also because I hadn’t gone out shooting in over a week! Unfortunately, it started raining about 20 minutes into our walk but I did manage to get off a few HDR photos…
Also, after images, I’ve included some links to excellent HDR tutorials…

A few HDR tutorials
Since this blog started, I’ve had a number of people ask me for tips on creating HDR images. I considered writing my own small tutorial but, since there is so much good content out there, I decided I’d just point everyone to a few of the best:
- Stuck in Customs – This is the tutorial I used when first learning High Dynamic Range imaging.
- Wikipedia entry on HDR
- Fotohacker HDR Tutorial – Just published a few days ago!
- Vanilla Days HDR Tutorial
- PopPhoto HDR Tutorial
I hope these links come in handy! I look forward to seeing everyone’s HDR images!

Nice cloud action Shawn,
Try a Curves adjustment layer, pull down some of the mids,
also navigate to 100%
Fliter- Sharpen- Unsharpmask- Amt 85, Rad 1, Thres 4
If your were not mac I would tell you to check out ReDynaMix

Oh BTW you can also reopen HDR image in Camera raw and use the clarity slider before doing other adjustments

Sweet! Thanks for the tips Mike! Since I’m new to Photoshop, I haven’t quite delved into the in-depth editing for my HDRs… It’s actually next on my list of the million Photoshop things to learn.
Thanks!

Very nice, your shots are always inspiring to try HDR, i guess eventually i will. =)
I second the suggestion about a little USM on all of these, even on an LCD they could use a bit more sharpness.
I also want to edit out the pole with the ‘no parking’ sign on the last one — somehow it gets way more attention than it needs.

Thanks MrYu!
I agree on the sharpness… I think that might also be a symptom of hand-held HDR shots. Getting it perfectly still for the three bracketed shots is tough and Photomatix can only do so much when aligning them. As soon as I begin learning my Photoshop foo (an use a tripod for these more often) I hope to get rid of that.
Thanks!
