Wanted to offer everyone a few updates on some projects that I started before preparation for the DCist Exposed show hijacked my already-short attention span…
Contest: Project Cameraphone
At the beginning of February, I invited everyone to submit their cameraphone photos to the Flickr group I set up. The best cameraphone photo will win a $100 Amazon gift certificate!
A couple changes:
1) There have only been a few photos submitted thus far so I am extending the contest to the end of this month. You now have until March 31st to submit your photos. Look at it this way: There have only been a few photos submitted thus far so, right now, your chances of winning are actually pretty good!
2) Originally, the prizes were set as a $100 gift certificate for the best photo and a $50 gift certificate for the best cameraphone tip. Since there haven’t been any tips submitted thus far, I am going to give the $50 Amazon gift certificate to the second-best photo.
A brief recap of the rules:
- First and foremost, the photos must be taken by a cameraphone… This could be an iPhone, Blackberry, Treo, or whatever. But it must be a cameraphone.
- Some post-processing is allowed but please leave the EXIF data intact, if possible. I need to be able to confirm that it was taken by a cameraphone of some sort. Yes, some of the more l33t among us can edit and/or fake EXIF data. But if you submit a 15MP photo claiming its from your dinky Samsung, the jig is up. Be honest.
- I don’t necessarily expect you to take a photo each day (though you’re certainly welcome to) but the photo must have been taken between February 11 (the day the contest started) and 31 March 2008. There is no limit on the number of photos you can post to the group.
- I pick the winners. At some point in the future, I will likely do a more community-driven contest but, for now, I want to keep it simple.
Join the Flickr group to submit your photos…
Photowalk: West Bank
Last month, I mentioned that I would be traveling to the West Bank in June to do some volunteer work with children on a Palestinian refugee camp. This is still on. In fact, I received a fair amount of interest from some of the people that I know in the area. This should be a lot of fun!! Bridging cultural barriers and taking photos at the same time!
If you are going to be in the West Bank in June, come join the Facebook event!
Let’s Quit Our Day Jobs!
Our Flickr group is slowly gaining momentum! More and more people are adding photos and the photos are just getting better and better! Be sure to join and add your photos. I’ll be looking to start a few threads on breaking into the photography business soon. Or, if you have something to say, go ahead and start a discussion!
Also, the group has its own photophlow room. Photophlow is a web service that basically combines IRC chat with Flickr. Very cool stuff! Photophlow is currently in an invite-only beta period, but I have a few extra invites if you want to check it out! Contact me if you’re interested!
