First shots from Jerusalem!
Fortunately, the wifi signal is my room has turned out to be pretty stable. So, I have uploaded a few shots from my brief walk today. Nothing great yet, as today was really more about getting some food, getting acclimated, and refamiliarizing myself with the narrow maze that is the Old City.
I’ve been in touch with two of the other international volunteers and I plan on meeting up with them tomorrow. I believe there are a few other people also staying in the Petra Hostel as well and I’m sure we’ll find each other.
Anyway, on to the photos…

You have a great eye my friend, I’m so jealous of your trip. You are in one of the few places I’ve always really wanted to go. What does the EXIF data look like for the pic with the candles? Are you using flash? I find that I’m always having to use long exposures which doesn’t give me the super sharp images you are getting. I’m guessing you have a lens with a super low fstop?

@Sandy: Thanks man! As for the candle shot, I didn’t use the flash. I brought it with me but didn’t have it while I was walking around yesterday. You can see the EXIF data for that shot on Flickr. I do have a pretty fast lens, which opens up to f/2.8 but that’s not what did this one. On this one, I bumped up the ISO to 3200. Aperture was f/8 and shutter speed was 1/250, and focal length was 35mm. Hope that helps!
@Mike Haha… you rock man! I will definitely do my best to get that shot. I feel a lot more confident about it already. Thanks!

Awesome images, Shawn! I particularly love the last images of the walkway through the bazaar. Keep shooting Shawn; would love to be on the trip with you.
