FotoWeek DC Contest now accepting entries!
The FotoWeek DC is now accepting entries for its FotoWeek DC Photo Contest. The early entry deadline is August 18th and the general deadline is September 22nd. FotoWeek DC is a photography festival in the Washington, DC area that will take place from November 15th through the 22nd. According to the festival website:
“The week of November 15-22, 2008 will mark the launch of FotoWeek DC, the first annual gathering of a diverse and wide-ranging photography community in the nation’s capital, including photographers, museums, universities and all those involved in the profession across the metro D.C. area, including Virginia and Maryland. Unique among American cities, Washington, D.C. is a nexus of artistic, business, political and public sector energy, in which photography plays an integral role. FotoWeek DC seeks to bring together all photographers and imaging professionals from every discipline to join with the public in celebration of the medium.”
Sounds pretty cool to me!
The photo contest promises $37,000 in cash and prizes and accepts work from professionals, amateurs, and students.

The important part of the rules after the jump…
“If the photograph contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, and/or if any persons appear in the photograph, the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the photograph, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the exhibition and use of the photograph in the manner set forth in these Official Rules without additional compensation. If any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority in their state/province/territory of residence, the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on each release.
“In addition, each WINNER grants to the Authorized Parties a license for use of his/her winning entry in connection with The FotoWeek DC Photography Competition and promotion of The FotoWeek DC Photography Competition, in any media now or hereafter known, including but not limited to: publication in magazines showcasing the winners, The FotoWeek DC Photography Competition exhibition; the FotoWeek DC Photography Competition Web site (www.fotoweekdccontest.org) and other promotions related to the FotoWeek DC Photography Competition. Such winners’ license is a non-exclusive, worldwide, 24 months (beginning the date winners are notified) license to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entries. Authorized Parties will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use.”
Not bad. Might be a good opportunity for some great exposure or, perhaps, some great prizes! Even if you aren’t planning on submitting a photo, you might want to check out some of the FotoWeek DC festivities! Sounds like a great time!

Special thanks to Heather from DCist for the heads-up via her Flickr page.
