Verdict on photophlow: phantastic!

If you’d like an invite, please read to the bottom of the article and leave a comment…

Yesterday, I wrote about a new web app called photophlow that intends to take the social nature of Flickr to the next level.

Last night, I received an invite to check it out. So far, the site delivers as promised. When you log in, you’ll be taken to the anteroom, pictured below. Click on the image for a full-size version.

From the anteroom, you can see the most recent photophlow news, a link to your room, and links to all your contacts’ rooms. On the right, you’ll see a list of the most active rooms; stopping by the photophlow welcome room is a must. They’re always seems to be a few people in there, including photophlow reps who I am sure will be ready to answer your questions. Finally, below the most active rooms, you’ll see rooms for all the groups you belong to. I think this will be huge. One of the best things about Flickr are the thousands of photo groups, at least one for every topic or photo object you can think of. The ability to interact with other group members in real-time will be invaluable… and probably completely addictive!

Now, let’s take a look at my room:

Social Photography?

February 5th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Of General Interest

photophlowOne of the things that I really loved about Flickr when I first joined about a year and a half ago was the social nature of it. I loved sharing my photos somewhere where I could meet, and get immediate feedback from, thousands of other photographers. Digital Photography School has just published an article on a site that promises to extend the social nature of Flickr to new levels. It’s called photophlow. From the DPS review:

“The basis of photophlow is Flickr: the photo-sharing website that is popular amongst many online photographers. photophlow uses the Flickr API to interface with Flickr users and photos. The interface is somewhat of a skin that allows for added functionality and new features. The main feature photophlow adds to the Flickr experience is the use of chat rooms and real-time interaction with the other photographers.

“These chat rooms give users the ability to “speak” with their friends, contacts, and new acquaintances. But the rooms offer something beyond chatting and messaging — photos, of course. Users can browse through and search for Flickr photos, display them to the group, chat about them, and even leave a Flickr comment on the photo right from the photophlow room. It’s an interactive social experience hinged around photography.” (link)

Head over to the DPS review for a sneak peek and overview of the photophlow interface.

Or, go to the photophlow site to see a video demo and sign up for an invitation. I’ve already requested an invite and, once/if I receive one, I’ll be sure to set up a room!
