The First Annual SDuffyPhotography Christmas Photo Contest!

As I was sitting here, getting ready to go to bed, I realized that I will receive my first Google Adsense check this month from the ads on this site. And since all of my readers are ultimately responsible for generating that check, I was thinking of a way I could say “Thank You” to all of the wonderful people who have helped make this blog what it is!

So, given the time of year that it is, I thought “Why not have a Christmas Photo Contest”! So here it is!

The rules are simple:

• You can submit up to three photos to the SDuffyPhotography Christmas Photo Contest Flickr Group.
• The photo must have been taken in 2007 or 2008!
• The photo must have a Christmas or holiday theme!
• The photo must be “kid-safe”!
• The photos must be YOURS!

That’s it! Entries must be submitted to the SDuffyPhotography Christmas Photo Contest Flickr Group by 11:59pm EST on Sunday, 21 December 2008! There will only be one winner, judged solely by me.

The Prize
The winner will be announced on Christmas Day and they will receive a $100 Amazon gift certificate. International entries are encouraged, too, but if you are unable to redeem the gift certificate, or receive shipping from Amazon, we will work out a prize of comparable value.

Please note: Personal friends of mine are ineligible. Personal friends are defined as either someone who knew me prior to the launch of this site or someone who knows me via other means than this site. Sorry friends! Isn’t my friendship enough of a prize?

This week’s “Let’s Quit Our Day Jobs” photo of the week is an untitled portrait from Flickr user Snickerson21. You can’t go wrong with a close-in portrait of a child with a genuine smile on his face but I particularly love the post-processing treatment. It gives the portrait an added touch and an old, scrapbook-type feel.

Flickr Photo of the Week(s)

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who has continued to contribute fantastic photos to the “Let’s Quit Our Day Jobs” Flickr group despite my neglect the last couple weeks. I was pleasantly surprised this morning to see so many great photographs that have been contributed over the last two weeks or so.

So, as I get the wheels turning again, I wanted to highlight one of the standout photos in the group pool.

This photo is called “out of service” by Flickr user brendan sheridan:

To reiterate one of the commenters on this great photo, India is, indeed, a photographer’s paradise and Brendan did wonderfully here. Nice work!

Flickr Group Photo of the Week

Apologies for getting this out late today… I just started a new “day job” last week and I’m still adjusting to working a little bit later everyday.

Anyway, this week’s photo comes from Flickr user pawoli. He submitted the following portrait of a man on a cell phone who appears a tad dismayed with the lens being pointed his way. I picked it because, knowing that pawoli is from Paris, this photo says “Paris” to me. And no, not because the gentleman is scowling. In addition, it’s not easy to take a photo of someone you don’t know in a setting like that so kudos to pawoli for pulling it off!

It’s that time of the week again!

This week’s photo of the week comes from Flickr user xgray. It’s a very simple shot of a chair. It just goes to show that you don’t necessarily have to have the most fascinating subjects to make a great photo. The composition here is everything. Nice work!
